Frequently
Asked Questions
- How many students can attend a classroom presentation?
Up to 30. We will allow more but there is an additional charge.
- How many students can attend an assembly? Up to 250.
More may be added though... see first question!
- How are
students in an assembly able to see the animals? - We pick the
animals up during the program and walk around and are now using a video
projector to display a large image of the animals on screen, allowing even
students in the back to see as well.
- Where do you get your animals? The majority of the animals displayed by
Under the Sea come from collection trips that we take in Virginia, going SCUBA
diving or walking on the beach. Some come from fishermen, pet stores, and a
few have been donated by high schools and universities that teach marine biology.
- Can the animals be touched? In the classroom presentations we bring the
animals around as we talk about them and allow the students the opportunity to
touch several. In assemblies, we allow them to touch one animal at the end
as they exit the assembly hall. Animal Close Encounters can be added to
assembly programs, affording the opportunity to touch many animals from the
assembly.
- Can individual classes take a moment to see the animals after the assembly?
Yes, we offer Animal Close Encounters for all classes at 15 minutes each to see and
touch some of the animals.
- What SOLs
or MSPAPs do you cover? There are a
variety that we hit with each program. Click
here for a complete listing.
- How
much do you charge for a program? Cost for an assembly usually
works out to about $1 per student, and for a classroom, about $3 per student.
Compare this to taking your kids to an aquarium!
- Do you offer after school enrichment programs? Yes! Please call for
more information on scheduling a series of after school presentations.
- Do you
give discounts? Yes, on occasion we will lower fees if there
are many shows taught (6 or more) or if other schools are involved. We
sometimes offer short notice specials as well - currently for the month of
October, assembly rates have been lowered from $275 to $245 (please mention
you saw this on our website).
- Why is your logo an apple and sea horse?
The apple is a common symbol for teachers and we added the sea horse since
we teach about the beach!
